Does my bedroom closet light have a short?

Most recently I started having a problem with my light fixture in my bedroom closet. I have had to pull on the string several times and even keep the string taught to get the light to go on and stay on.The light also flickers and slowly goes out. Is this a fire hazard? The duplex does have old wires.
